Groundwater and Soil Remediation Design, Installation, & Maintenance
Once the nature and extent of contamination of soil, air and groundwater is identified, remedial design alternatives are reviewed in terms of both effectiveness and cost to implement. Clean-up options are reviewed based upon required clean up levels, technical efficiencies, long term liabilities, and overall costs. The remedial plan is submitted for regulatory approval and, once approved in concept, detailed plans and specifications (performance standards) are prepared for the clean-up. Our services include remedial system installation, operation and maintenance.

Remedial measures we have used at sites include: soils excavation and disposal; low temperature thermal desorption; soil vapor extraction; asphalt encapsulation; bio-remediation; on-site groundwater pumping and treatment such as dual phase extraction, air stripping, carbon treatment and oil water separation; and, other physical/chemical or biological treatment processes.

Our knowledge of the regulatory process helps ensure that work is conducted in a successful manner. Our start-to-finish capabilities in site assessment, remedial design, installation of remedial measures and operations and maintenance save our clients time and money.
Licensed Site Professional Services
Atlantic Design Engineers, LLC offers Licensed Site Professional services to ensure that the work is completed in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP). We have the technical knowledge and experience to define and remediate existing problems, meet regulatory criteria, implement management plans and use treatment technologies that work. Our LSPs on staff are fully qualified to provide our Clients with the wide range of services needed to fulfill the requirements of the MCP.
Environmental Site Assessments
Environmental Site Assessments, subsurface soils investigations, hydrogeological studies and soil vapor gas surveys have been conducted on over 300 sites in the New England Region. These studies have been prepared to determine potential environmental liability, contaminant levels in soils and groundwater and to evaluate potential impacts on environmentally sensitive areas such as public drinking wells, aquifers, endangered species habitat, etc. Services provided include data research, installation of borings and monitoring wells, soil and groundwater sampling and analysis and review of site conditions relative to applicable federal and state regulations.
Medical Device Manufacturers and Contract Sterilization Facilities
Comprehensive permit applications, feasibility studies, engineering design and diagnostic/source testing services have been completed for large commercial sterilization facilities across the country. These facilities sterilize medical devices using Ethylene (EtO) sterilant gas in various blends including 100%, Carbon Dioxide, and HCFC blends. Services provided to industrial clients have included negotiation of Regulatory Consent Agreements, completion of engineering feasibility studies, selection of emissions control equipment, regulatory permitting and compliance planning, engineering design, project installation management, source testing of emissions control equipment, and OSHA compliance audits. Client facilities are located in North Carolina, New Jersey, Washington, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Texas, Kansas, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Michigan.
Industrial Manufacturing Facilities
Engineering and permitting services completed, including initial feasibility review and conceptual evaluation of wind turbine installation for a 30MW turbine renewable energy park. Services included wind resource mapping, turbine siting, wind energy array loss projections, meteorological tower permit plan, and project environmental studies including visual impact assessment report, acoustic impacts, and shadow flicker determination. Permitting documents and public hearing presentations were made to the Zoning Board of Appeals, which resulted in special use permits and height variance (right to the build being issued for the project).
